俄羅斯出兵敘利亞已成定局，而俄方先前的舉措可以發現，莫斯科當局正打算把中國大陸拖下水。多位國際關係學者1日受訪時表示，由於大陸國家主席習近平已在聯合國大會上強調，中國要做世界和平的建設者，堅定走和平發展道路，永不稱霸，永不擴張；因此，中方不會改變既有的政策，協助俄羅斯出兵敘利亞。
俄羅斯聯邦委員會委員莫羅佐夫曾在上月底表示，中方決定參與打擊IS軍事行動，並向敘利亞海岸派出自己的軍艦；他並且透露，中國戰艦已進入地中海，中國航母隨後駛來。但有關派軍艦赴敘利亞一事已被中方否認。
政治大學國際關係研究中心研究員嚴震生表示，習近平長期強調不干預他國內政，要與他國和平共處，中國要展現大國的風範，除非聯合國需要，才會參與國際維和部隊，共同對付敘利亞危機；不過，以目前敘利亞政府與反對派僵持不下的態勢而言，需要出動國際維和部隊機率很低。
他進一步表示， 俄羅斯國會先前同意對烏克蘭出兵，引起國際撻伐，其中包括中方，因此，中方更不可能和俄羅斯一同出兵敘利亞。
淡江大學戰略研究所所長李大中直言，中方與俄國一同出兵敘利亞對抗IS的機率幾乎是零。
他說明，儘管中俄是長期的戰略夥伴關係，不過中方長期的外交政策就是反對軍事同盟，且中方始終認為，干預他國內政，加入他國混亂局面，只會讓局勢越來越混亂，中方會在此原則上持續堅持，除非聯合國出動，否則中方不會輕易出兵。
李大中舉例，中方希望與國際社會一同對抗不合理的事件，加強國際合作，像是索馬利亞海盜；而以目前敘利亞的態勢看來，只有俄羅斯單方面出兵，中方絕對不可能這麼做。
